Who Do You Spend the Most Time With?
Let’s not sugarcoat it.
Ask yourself: “Who do I spend the most time with?”
You might flinch when you realize the answer isn’t God. It’s your phone. Your coworkers. That toxic friend. Your grind. Netflix. TikTok. Yourself.
We say we love God, but our daily habits often testify against us.
Let’s be blunt—God is supposed to be our everything, but most days, He barely gets anything.
We All Fall Short (Romans 3:23)
The truth is, we fall short. All of us.
Even when we claim Jesus is our Savior, our actions often scream something else.
It takes humility to admit it, but “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We’re dust, and without the Spirit, we drift.
And you know what? God already knows that.
But He still wants us.
He still calls us to Himself.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8
That’s not a suggestion. That’s a promise.

How Do We Spend Time with God?
We don’t need a monk’s robe or a mountaintop.
We need intention, honesty, and yes—fear and trembling.
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” – Philippians 2:12
You spend time with God like you would a person you love deeply—except He’s also your King.
Here are real, tangible ways to be with Him:
1. Talk to Him (Prayer)
Not a grocery list of blessings. A conversation.
Whisper to Him in the car. Cry out in the shower. Thank Him before you sleep.
Prayer isn’t a ritual—it’s a relationship.
“Pray without ceasing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
2. Read His Word (Scripture)
The Bible isn’t just a holy book. It’s the voice of Jesus.
Reading it is like sitting with the Lord Himself.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John 1:1
Spend time in Psalms when you’re anxious. Read the Gospels to get close to Jesus. Dive into Proverbs when you need wisdom.
Let the Word shape your soul.
3. Acknowledge the Holy Spirit
The Spirit isn’t a ghostly concept. He’s God with us, now.
Speak to Him. Ask for His guidance before you text back, make that choice, or open your mouth.
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.” – Ephesians 4:30
He’s not far. He’s in the room. He’s in you, if you’ve received Christ.
4. Worship Without a Crowd
You don’t need lights and a stage.
Turn off your phone. Turn up a worship song. Or sing in silence. Or sit in the stillness and just say His name.
“Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Most of Us Spend Time with the Wrong People
Let’s be honest.
We spend more time with people who drain us, tempt us, or distract us.
We care more about likes than the Lord of all creation.
We chase the approval of people we wouldn’t even want speaking at our funeral.
And it’s not just bad company—it’s spiritually dangerous.
“Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.” – 1 Corinthians 15:33
Spending Time with God Requires Humility
To truly spend time with God, you have to admit you’re not the center of the universe.
You have to stop pretending.
You have to come face-to-face with your brokenness—and still believe He loves you.
Fear and trembling doesn’t mean fear of punishment—it means awe, reverence, and trembling at the weight of His glory.
In the End: Time = Worship
Where you spend your time is what you worship.
Your calendar and your screen time are often better indicators of your spiritual health than your church attendance.
So today, ask yourself again:
“Who do I spend the most time with?”
If it’s not God, change that.
Not with guilt, but with grace and urgency.

Scriptures to Meditate On:
- Romans 3:23 – “All have sinned…”
- James 4:8 – “Draw near to God…”
- Philippians 2:12 – “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling…”

Closing Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve ignored You.
I’ve given my time to worthless things. I’ve chased idols.
But today, I want to return.
Give me the discipline to seek You, the heart to love You, and the humility to know I need You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
