I would like to take this time to challenge the modern American Christian who thinks it virtuous to funnel billions of dollars to Ukraine in support of a proxy war. One basic question: What theological basis are you pinning this support on? Where in the New or Old Testament does it make that case for supporting foreign government wars? Support for the war in Ukraine should not be in the minds of American Christians and heralded from behind the pulpit. The local Church is a far more pressing issue than missle in a corrupt country thousands of miles away. Supporting the war in Ukraine, or the financial support, is not a Christian virtue. These are fake pious overtures where Christians conflate American liberty with biblical authority.
It bewilders the imagination at just how opulent and depraved America has become to allow all the death in our local communities due to drugs, murder, and rampant evil yet we have billions of dollars to send to foreign countries who suppress religion. This showcases our ingratitude for the abundance of blessings the good Lord has historically heaped on the United States.
These two gentlemen seem to be the vanguard for reason and responsibility on this subject. Although they never touch on the theological, which is the focus of this blog, they make great political points. Christians need to stop supporting this catastrophic proxy war where our tax dollars are being deferred from where they are most needed: on Americans.
In Times of Social Conflict or Distress
Increase, O God, the spirit of neighborliness among us, that
in peril we may uphold one another, in suffering tend to one
another, and in homelessness, loneliness, or exile befriend
one another. Grant us brave and enduring hearts that we may
strengthen one another, until the disciplines and testing of these
days are ended, and you again give peace in our time; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
